AS YOUR RITZ-CARLTON YACHT RECRUITER, THIS IS MY INTERVIEW
I am the Recruiter. I have 100 CVs. For Laundry Man on Yacht, I check 3 things: *Can you handle luxury? Will you damage guest clothes? Will you follow safety?*
SECTION A: PERSONAL & LUXURY MINDSET – Ritz-Carlton Gold Standard

*Q1. Tell me about yourself?*
*What I want to hear:* Polished, clean, luxury hotel background.
*Perfect Answer:* “Good morning, I am from Kenya. I have 3 years as Laundry Attendant at a 5-star hotel in Nairobi, handling guest laundry, VIP suits, silk sarees, and 200kg linen daily. I am very detail-oriented, I respect guest privacy, and I live by your motto: Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen.”[Name]
*Q2. Why Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and not a big cruise ship?*
*What I want to hear:* You understand YACHT is different from CRUISE – small, personal, ultra-luxury.
*Perfect Answer:* “Ritz-Carlton Yacht is not a cruise ship, it is a private super-yacht with only 298 guests. Every guest is known by name. I want to provide ultra-luxury care — not mass production. I pay attention to one shirt at a time.”
*Q3. A guest gives you a very expensive dress, $5,000 Chanel, with no washing label. What do you do?*
*What I want to hear:* You will NOT wash it. You ask.
*Perfect Answer:* “I will never wash it without checking. I will stop, inform my Executive Housekeeper, call the guest or send note: ‘Dear Guest, to protect your beautiful garment, may I know its care preference?’ I will suggest dry cleaning or hand wash. Guest safety and garment safety first.”
*Q4. Can you share cabin, work 12 hours, iron standing for 8 hours, handle heavy linen?*
*Perfect Answer:* “Yes. I am used to standing 10 hours for pressing, lifting 20kg linen bags, working in hot laundry 35C. I am fit, I keep my cabin clean, I respect my colleagues.”

SECTION B: SAFETY / CHEMICALS / USPH / HYGIENE – If you fail this, you fail
*Q5. What chemicals do you use in laundry and how do you handle them?*
*What I want to hear:* You know names and PPE.
*Perfect Answer:* “Detergent, oxygen bleach for white, chlorine bleach only for white cotton at 150ppm, softener, stain remover like oxi, and dry cleaning solvent. I always wear gloves, goggles, mask, check MSDS sheet, never mix bleach and ammonia, and label every bottle.”
*Q6. What is USPH for laundry on a yacht?*
*Perfect Answer:* “1. Separate guest laundry and crew laundry, separate clean and dirty area. 2. Wash at correct temp: White linen 71C for 25 mins to kill bacteria, colored 40-60C. 3. Hands wash before handling clean linen. 4. Clean linen stored covered, off floor. 5. Report any illness. No clean linen touches floor.”
*Q7. What do you do if you find blood or medicine in guest clothes?*
*Perfect Answer:* “Wear gloves, handle with care, wash separately at high temp 71C with disinfectant. If sharps like needle, I use tongs, put in sharps box, report to supervisor. I never touch with bare hands.”
*Q8. How do you prevent losing guest laundry?*
*Perfect Answer:* “Triple check: Count before wash, tag with guest name, suite number, date, list items. Use laundry net for delicates. Double-check pockets for money/jewelry and log it. Return within 3 hours with all buttons, no damage.”
SECTION C: TECHNICAL – YOUR HANDS
*Q9. How do you wash different fabrics?*
*What I want to hear:* You are not a machine operator, you are a fabric expert.
*Perfect Answer:*
“White cotton sheets/towels: Hot wash 71C, bleach, high spin.
Colored guest clothes: Cold 30-40C, mild detergent, no bleach.
Silk, wool, cashmere: Hand wash cold or dry clean only, no tumble dry.
Linen suits: Low heat press, steam only.”
*Q10. How do you remove a red wine stain from a white tablecloth?*
*Perfect Answer:* “Act fast: Blot not rub, apply salt or white wine to lift, then soak in oxygen bleach + cold water, wash at 60C. Never use hot water first — it sets stain. If stubborn, report for special treatment.”
*Q11. What temperatures for washing and pressing?*
*Perfect Answer:* “Washing: Whites 71C, Colors 40C, Delicates 30C. Drying: Cotton high 80C, synthetics medium 60C, delicates air dry. Ironing: Linen 200-210C high, Cotton 180C, Silk 150C low, Wool 150C with steam, Polyester 110C. Always test inside seam.”
*Q12. Daily routine as Laundry Man on Ritz-Carlton Yacht?*
*Perfect Answer:* “6 AM: Check machines, check priority list — VIP, Suite guests first. Sort linen: white, color, delicate, crew. Count and tag guest items, check pockets, treat stains. Wash per spec, dry, press to Ritz standard — no crease, no shine. Fold, pack on hanger with tissue, deliver with note. Clean lint filter, clean machines, log chemicals. Night: prepare next day.”
*Q13. How do you press a perfect white shirt for a guest?*
*Perfect Answer:* “Check label, set iron for cotton 180C with steam, start with collar, then cuffs, sleeves, yoke, front, back. No water marks, no shine, buttons safe. Hang on wooden hanger, top button closed, in garment bag.”
*Q14. If two guests need laundry urgently at same time, what do you do?*
*Perfect Answer:* “Check priority: Suite guest and time of request first. Inform second guest politely: ‘Your laundry will be ready in 2 hours, is that okay?’ Inform Housekeeper, work faster but no compromise on quality.”
*Q15. What question do you have for me?*
*Perfect Answer:* Ask luxury question: “What is the one detail that makes Ritz-Carlton Yacht laundry different from a 5-star hotel laundry, and how can I deliver that wow factor?”

3 GOLDEN RULES TO PASS RITZ-CARLTON YACHT
1. *Say Guest, not Customer.* Say Ladies and Gentlemen.
2. *Never say ‘I will try.’ Say ‘Certainly, I will take care of it.’* — Ritz language.
3. *For any expensive item, say: Stop, Ask, Protect.* They fear you burning a $10,000 suit.
